M1 - The Crab Nebula

M1 - The Crab Nebula

The Crab Nebula (M1), in the constellation Taurus, is the remnant of a supernova, which is the violent explosion of a star. This supernova was observed by Chinese astronomers on about July 4, 1054 A.D. To find out more about this object, visit Web Nebulae - The Crab Nebula and The Messier Index - M1.    This image is a 26-minute exposure from 4 September 1995 using hypered Fuji Super HG400 film at the prime focus of a 16" f/4.5 Newtonian telescope.  The below version of the same image includes the surrounding star field.
