The following astronomical images were taken in Maine, Maryland, and Virginia with an Olympus OM-1 camera, Nikon N2000 camera and a 16-inch, f/4.5 Meade Starfinder Newtonian Reflector telescope.  Images will be added as they are obtained.

NEBULAE Interstellar clouds of gas and dust.  Nebulae include the remnants of supernova explosions of stars, expanding shells of gas blown off from dying stars, and regions of new star formation.

COMETS - A comet is an interplanetary body thhat contains ices and dark carbon-rich soil. Comets travel in highly elliptical orbits around the Sun that take them from beyond the orbit of Pluto to close solar passes. As a comet approaches the Sun, its ices sublime into space, giving off a trailing stream of gas and dust. The following images are of three comets seen in 1996, 1997, and 2007.

METEORS - A meteor, commonly called a "shooting star", is the phenomenon visible when a meteoroid, a small solid interplanetary particle, impacts the Earth's atmosphere.  A meteor shower is a concentrated group of meteors, visible when the Earth passes through the debris from a comet.
